Spring Has Arrived

spring time-2.jpg

We may have had a very mild winter in the south, but Spring is officially here and it has been beautiful outside. For the Gizmodo Shooting Challenge: Spring, I immediately thought of the pink blossoms popping up all over town as they always signify spring to me. The house next door is vacant so I took this opportunity to take some shots in their yard. I had been wanting to get some shots of a pretty pink tree they have out front. Even though this shot of blue berries is the only one I took, I found it the most intriguing. The berries look like they have so much potential and have been waiting on spring to arrive. The thin thread connecting in the lower right corner was just a happy accident and left me wondering what little critter created it. [After the jump: More spring-inspired images.]

Telling the Story

I am a firm believer that photographers, like writers, are storytellers. Whether it’s telling a couple’s love story through a series of engagement pictures or showing a town’s devastating heartbreak with images of a tornado’s wake, photographers capture the emotions in a moment. The amazing part about being a creative is being able to inject a small piece of yourself into each story you capture. While it may be a client’s story, you are still telling it from your point of view. I think in this way art is able to connect us with each other across time and space. Happiness for Success

I’ve been thinking a lot about hard work and success as I wait to start school. I found this video about the relationship between happiness and success very interesting. In the past year I have experienced the difference exercise can make in my mood and stress levels. Despite having heard this claim before I had to experience it to truly understand the effects. With that in mind I’d like to implement some of the other ideas mentioned in the video for actively pursuing happiness. [After the jump: TED talk by Shawn Achor: The happy secret to better work]
